chang'e-1 to be launched by year-end

chinanews, beijing, september 17 – sun laiyan, deputy director of commission of science, technology and industry for national ¹, said in an interview given to gov.cn that chang'e-1, the lunar orbiter made in china, had already been shipped to the launch site, and it would enter the space before 2008.

chang'e-1 will mainly be used to take 3d-pictures of the moon and ² the composition of the lunar soil. it will also investigate the space between earth and moon during its journey before entering the orbit.

“the aim of chang'e-1 is similar to selene, the japanese lunar orbiter launched recently, and the information collected by chang'e-1 will be available to scientists from all around the world,” said sun.
